The clothing drive was held in April and clothes sorted on Saturday April 19. Thanks to all who assisted in this year's drive and we hope you can join us in 2009!

Ministering to Our Local Community

The Deacons are also involved in our local community of Hunterdon County and the surrounding towns in the following ways:

Community Outreach:
The Deacons contact local organizations such as Safe in Hunterdon, the Friendship Center for New Beginnings, The Flemington Food Pantry and elementary schools to identify the needs of their clients/students, and then supplies are purchased and delivered. The Deacons working on this project also organize the Christmas Angel Tree program, which provides the congregation with an opportunity to purchase gifts for local families in need during the month of December.

Open R.O.A.D.:
The Deacons work with Open R.O.A.D., a community-based project, to coordinate transportation and assistance to handicapped community members to attend worship services. At the Flemington Presbyterian Church, the primary role of the Deacons is to serve as a liaison with Open R.O.A.D. to coordinate the attendance of handicapped individuals to our church, and to recruit church volunteers to sit with the handicapped individual during the church service to make them feel welcome and a part of the congregation.

Food Certificates:
Twice a year (Easter and Thanksgiving/Christmas) the Deacons give the congregation an opportunity to donate through the special Deacon's fund. This fund is used to purchase food certificates which are distributed to the Interfaith Hospitality Network and Safe in Hunterdon in Flemington to assist those in need.

Spring Clothing Drive (pictured):
Every Spring the Deacons hold a clothing drive. The clothes benefit local individuals in need through such organizations as the Friendship Center for New Beginnings and the Interfaith Hospitality Network, as well as those seeking help and assistance from the Trenton Rescue Mission. In addition, a large quantity is sent with VIM to Maine each summer.

Christmas Toy Drive:
The Deacons accept donations of new and gently used toys for the Trenton Rescue Mission. These gifts are collected during December and delivered to the organizations in time for Christmas for needy families.

Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) Christmas Party:
The Deacons host a Christmas party for the IHN guests in Fellowship Hall, complete with presents and a visit from Santa.
